Jacob Evans to play on Warriors' Summer League team before second season

The Warriors hold the No. 28 and No. 58 overall selections in Thursday's 2019 NBA Draft, and whichever prospects they take with those picks will play on Golden State's Summer League team, director of basketball operations Bob Myers announced Wednesday.

Those two newest Warriors will be teammates with the Dubs' most recent first-round pick from the 2018 draft, Jacob Evans, whom Myers also confirmed would participate in Summer League.

Additionally, Alfonzo McKinnie will be in Las Vegas to work out with the Summer League team, but it's unlikely he'll be an official member of it.

Evans' inclusion on the Summer League roster isn't the least bit surprising, given his lackluster rookie season in which playing time was hard to come by. He appeared in just 30 games with Golden State (one start), in which he averaged 1.3 points per contest on 34.0 percent shooting from the field and 26.7 percent from 3-point range. He also played 21 games with the Santa Cruz Warriors (16 starts), in which he averaged 11.2 points in 26.1 minutes per contest.

Evans' sophomore season in the NBA will be an important one for him, as it's vital he shows some growth to convince the Warriors he should be a part of their future plans. In the event both Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson re-sign with Golden State in free agency, there's bound to be plenty of minutes available throughout the roster while the two All-Stars work their way back from significant injuries.

If Evans can capitalize on his Summer League opportunity and remind the Warriors why they made him their first-round pick a year ago, he could be one of the primary candidates to fill that resulting void.
