Repeat? Where Warriors stand among 2022-23 NBA title favorites

Share

The Warriors are no strangers to a repeat.

Golden State is the most recent NBA team to win back-to-back championships, doing so in 2017 and 2018. So after beating the Boston Celtics in the 2022 NBA Finals on Thursday for their fourth title in eight years, what are the Dubs' odds of pulling off yet another repeat next season?

Well, PointsBet has already released odds for the 2023 Finals winner and the Warriors are listed as one of three favorites at +600:

  • Golden State Warriors: +600
  • Boston Celtics: +600
  • Los Angeles Clippers: +600
  • Brooklyn Nets: +700
  • Milwaukee Bucks: +750
  • Phoenix Suns: +900

The runner-up Celtics have all of their main contributors under contract for 2022-23, while the Clippers are slated to get Kawhi Leonard back around a strong supporting cast. The Nets could be dangerous depending on how the Kyrie Irving situation shakes out, while the Bucks and Suns will be motivated to bounce back from second-round losses. Then there are the Mavericks, Nuggets and Grizzlies all lurking as well.

Still, it's hard not to like the Warriors' chances of hoisting the Larry O'Brien Trophy again in 2023. Golden State has a few key role players hitting free agency next month including Kevon Looney, Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. But even if they can't retain all three, youngsters Jonathan Kuminga, Moses Moody and James Wiseman are waiting in the wings. Oh yeah, and the Warriors still have this guy named Stephen Curry surrounded by Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole.

Suffice to say, the Dubs' dynasty is far from over.
