Watch Giants' Hunter Bishop celebrate with top pick Spencer Torkelson

Giants prospect Hunter Bishop and top 2020 MLB Draft prospect Spencer Torkelson had at least three things in common entering Wednesday. They're both Bay Area natives who hit for power and attended college at Arizona State University.

By Wednesday evening, however, they added another commonality. Torkelson joined Bishop as a first-round pick in the MLB draft when he was taken No. 1 overall by the Detroit Tigers. And, Bishop was there to celebrate with his Bay Area and collegiate brethren.

Bishop, of course, was selected by San Francisco with the No. 10 overall pick of the 2019 MLB Draft last June. After attending high school in San Mateo, he moved on to Tempe where he hit 22 home runs as a junior. Torkelson, who attended Casa Grande High School in Petaluma, smashed six bombs in an abbreviated junior campaign after hitting 48 combined homers over his freshman and sophomore seasons.

Bishop currently is ranked as the Giants' fourth-best prospect by MLB Pipeline. A couple seasons from now, he and Torkelson might be celebrating together again -- in the majors.
