The Giants selected their second pitcher on the opening night of the 2022 MLB Draft.
With the No. 66 pick in the second round, San Francisco took left-handed pitcher Carson Whisenhunt, a 6-foot-3, 209-pound southpaw out of East Carolina University.
Whisenhunt caught scouts' attention as a high schooler in 2019 out of North Carolina but ultimately went undrafted.

In one full season at East Carolina, Whisenhunt posted a 6-2 record with a 3.77 ERA in 62 innings pitched, while striking out 79 batters.
Whisenhunt entered the 2022 season as one of the best healthy college lefties but received a year-long suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug that he claimed was in a supplement he took.
Prior to the suspension, many draft analysts had Whisenhunt as a first-round pick, which could present San Francisco with another high-upside move to pair alongside their No. 30 pick and two-way player Reggie Crawford.
