Kittle reveals interesting superstition for 49ers field goals
By Jennifer Lee Chan

TAMPA, Fla. — Jake Moody had a rough day in the 49ers' 23-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, but George Kittle is taking some responsibility for at least one of the kicker's three missed field goals.
After the game, the tight end shared his superstition about field-goal attempts that began back when ex-49ers kicker Robbie Gould was on the team.
"I made this decision, I think it was 2018 or 2019," Kittle said. "The one I stood up and watched, Robbie missed it, and Robbie Gould never misses kicks. I was like, I’m just going to stop watching kicks.
"If I’m standing up, I usually just sit down, and for some reason I stood up and watched and Jake missed the first one. I was like, what am I doing? This is my fault because I’m very superstitious. So now I’ll watch the board, but I don’t watch the live rep. I have issues."
CMC still finding ‘groove' after busy 49ers return vs. Bucs
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

TAMPA, Fla. — The 49ers did not exactly ease Christian McCaffrey back into the action.
Instead, he hit the ground running.
After playing the bulk of the San Francisco's offensive snaps and getting 19 touches, the running back said he did not feel as if he got banged up in the aftermath of the 49ers’ 23-20 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“I feel pretty good,” McCaffrey said. “I thought I was going to be more sore, but we’ll see how I feel tomorrow. I never like saying anything until you wake up.”
Maiocco's 49ers Report Card: Team grades in harrowing win vs. Bucs
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

TAMPA, Fla. — The 49ers’ 2024 NFL season was teetering on the brink.
So, too, were their grades for their Week 10 performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 49ers erased a lot of wrongs when quarterback Brock Purdy drove the 49ers into range for Jake Moody’s 44-yard field goal, which came after three misses.
And the 49ers escaped with a 23-20 victory that provided them with their first two-game win streak of the season.

Pearsall earns first NFL keepsake with 49ers TD vs. Buccaneers
By Jennifer Lee Chan

TAMPA, Fla. — Just 71 days after his NFL career was placed in jeopardy, 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall scored his first career touchdown.
The wide receiver, who was shot in an attempted robbery on Aug. 31, caught four of his six targets for 73 yards and a score in San Francisco's 23-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.
After the play, fullback Kyle Juszczyk picked up the football for safe keeping until it was safely in Pearsall's hands after the game.
“Probably just to hang it up somewhere in the room,” Pearsall said of what he'll do with the football. “Probably should start a little memorabilia area in my room or something.”

Kittle hilariously breaks down his epic TD, Purdy's incredible throw
By Andy Lindquist

George Kittle had a funny description of his game-changing touchdown catch in the fourth quarter of the 49ers' 23-20 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
After the game, Kittle was asked about quarterback Brock Purdy’s amazing throw to him in the back of the endzone.
“Well, my only role in that play is to get covered by the safety so Christian [McCaffrey] can score,” Kittle told Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews. “He doesn’t score. So, I’m sitting in the back and whoever is guarding me is kind of talking c--p in my ear saying I’m not going to score. And I see Brock scramble and I go, ‘Oh that’s a dime.’
"He put it up where only I could get it, what a play by Brock.”

Deebo states he was ‘out of character' in 49ers sideline scuffle
By Jordan Elliott

The 49ers emerged victorious, but the biggest story was a sideline scuffle between wide receiver Deebo Samuel and long snapper Taybor Pepper during the fourth quarter of San Francisco's 23-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.
Following the win, Samuel explained what prompted the heated exchange that occurred after kicker Jake Moody's third missed field goal of the game.
"Normally I don't even get like that, but just frustrated in the heat of battle, you know," Samuel told reporters. "Real close game, I kind of got out character, but I'll talk to Moody and we'll get past it."
Moody responded from his rough outing by drilling a 44-yard field goal attempt as time expired, securing a tumultuous win for San Francisco. Samuel praised Moody's resilience, lauding his teammates' ability to shrug off a brutal game to deliver in a big spot.

What Deebo told Moody before 'emotional' altercation with Pepper
By Angelina Martin

After 49ers kicker Jake Moody missed a third field goal against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, star wide receiver Deebo Samuel took it upon himself to address the situation on the sideline.
The team captain's choice of words led to a physical altercation with long snapper Taybor Pepper, who broke down the fourth-quarter incident following San Francisco's 23-20 win.
"[Samuel] was telling [Moody] to lock in," Pepper told reporters after the game. "We know what our job is. We got us. It's hard being a specialist. As a young developing specialist like Jake is, the best mental exercise you can have is -- I mean, I don't know how much better it gets than missing three straight and having to step up and hit an almost 50-yard game-winner.
"So I'm super proud of Jake."

Shanahan ‘not too worried' about Deebo, Pepper scuffle in 49ers' win
By Tristi Rodriguez

Tensions reached an ultimate high late in the fourth quarter of the 49ers' thrilling 23-20 win Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.
After second-year NFL kicker Jake Moody missed his third field goal of the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, star wide receiver Deebo Samuel was seen getting into a heated scuffle with long snapper Taybor Pepper while walking over to the sideline, at one point putting his hands on Pepper's neck before walking away.
Pepper and Samuel continued to exchange words along the sideline as others separated the two.
Meanwhile, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan was so busy scheming for the final three minutes of the game that he didn't know anything about his players' tussle until someone later informed him about it.

Maiocco's Observations: 49ers kicker Moody plays hero with walk-off FG
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

TAMPA, Fla. — The 49ers opened the second half of their season looking every bit like they did in the first eight games of the season.
Even with some of their key offensive players back in action, the 49ers’ struggles continued in the red zone. The defense had difficulty coming up with the big stop.
And, once again, special teams were dreadful — so dreadful, in fact, that Deebo Samuel had clearly seen enough.

Deebo strikes teammate Pepper in throat after Moody misses third FG
By Ali Thanawalla

Tempers flared ... between 49ers players late in Sunday's dramatic 23-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Deebo Samuel was upset with Jake Moody after the young kicker missed a 44-yard field goal late in the fourth quarter, and when teammate Taybor Pepper tried to break things up, the wide receiver struck the snapper in the throat.
The miss was Moody's third of the game and would have given the 49ers a 23-17 lead.
Instead, quarterback Baker Mayfield led the Buccaneers down the field to set up a game-tying 26-yard field goal from Chase McLaughlin.
After three missed field-goal attempts, Jake Moody redeemed himself and played hero Sunday.
A late drive by Tampa Bay resulted in a game-tying field goal with 41 seconds remaining in the game.
Brock Purdy and San Francisco's offense made the most of their limited time, setting up Moody for a 44-yard field goal that gave the 49ers the thrilling 23-20 victory.

Jake Moody missed his third field goal of the game, and his latest couldn't have come at a worse time for the 49ers.
With a 20-17 lead in the fourth, Moody missed a 44-yard field goal with 3:13 left in the game. A make would've given San Francisco a 23-17 lead.

After the Buccaneers took their first lead of the game in the fourth quarter, the 49ers failed to respond back right away.
Despite an incredible effort by George Kittle, who caught a short pass from Brock Purdy and ran over and through several Buccaneers defenders for 33 yards, the 49ers' offense couldn't get much more yardage beyond that.
After a pass to Jauan Jennings wasn't enough for a third-down conversion, the 49ers opted to kick a field goal on fourth-and-5. But Moody missed the 50-yard attempt, his second miss of the game.

NFL fines Bosa $11,255 for wearing MAGA hat on field after 49ers' win
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

Nick Bosa broke the rules after the 49ers’ Week 8 victory over the Dallas Cowboys and, as expected, the NFL fined the edge rusher on Saturday.
The NFL fined Bosa $11,255 for wearing a "Make America Great Again" hat in support of President-elect Donald Trump, a violation of a non-partisan rule that prohibits players from displaying any message relating to a political activity or campaign.
Bosa was fined for a violation of the NFL uniform and equipment rules for wearing a hat that contained a personal message, a source told NBC Sports Bay Area.
Bosa, 27, grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and played three seasons at Ohio State before the 49ers selected him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

49ers' Shanahan isn't taking Bucs lightly, knows they're a ‘problem'
By Andy Lindquist

Kyle Shanahan knows the 49ers cannot take the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lightly in a critical mid-season game on Sunday.
The San Francisco coach has the utmost respect for Tampa Bay and its fearsome defense.
“That defense with [coach] Todd [Bowles] has always been such a good defense,” Shanahan told Greg Papa on the latest “49ers Game Plan,” which debuted Friday night on NBC Sports Bay Area. “Vita Vea and the safety, No. 31 [Antoine Winfield Jr], his dad was a problem also. They’ve always been so good. This year the way they came out, a lot of people were picking them and it looked like that on tape.”
“Starting out beating Detroit [Lions] earlier in the year, just the way they’ve looked. They’ve lost some tight games, they’ve had some tough injuries. But I see the exact same team on tape. They are a problem if they can string together some wins and get into the playoffs, they’ll be just like they were last year.”

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan can’t wait for superstar running back Christian McCaffrey’s return from bilateral Achilles tendinitis, which likely will be against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10 of the 2024 NFL season.
“He looked good,” Shanahan told Greg Papa about McCaffrey in the latest edition of NBC Sports Bay Area’s “49ers Game Plan.” “Yeah, we’re excited to have him back. He should be good to go here. We got to be smart with him. We’ll find out as the game goes, what the exact plan is, but I just know we’re pumped to have him back.”
McCaffrey, of course, is the league’s reigning Offensive Player of the Year and is coming off a 2023 campaign where he had 2,023 yards from scrimmage and 21 touchdowns. At 4-4, San Francisco probably couldn’t have gone without its ace any longer.
Not lost by Shanahan, though, is the stellar job the running back room has done without McCaffrey. Jordan Mason has kept the team’s running game afloat -- averaging 5.1 yards per carry and collecting 685 overall -- and rookie Isaac Guerendo has run for at least 85 yards in two of San Francisco’s last three games.
Shanahan concerned ‘to a degree' about Bosa's 49ers-Bucs status
By Jordan Elliott

While 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan prepares for Sunday's matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, there is concern San Francisco could be without one of its stars.
All-Pro defensive end Nick Bosa officially is listed as questionable for Sunday, dealing with a hip injury suffered during Wednesday's practice.
"I am to a degree," Shanahan told reporters when asked if he's concerned about Bosa's availability for Sunday's game in Tampa. "He wasn't able to do a lot. He definitely was extremely limited. Hoping he'll be alright, but we'll see on Sunday."
Shanahan further clarified that Bosa was not previously injured heading into the 49ers' Week 9 bye.

The 49ers might elevate a familiar face from the practice squad this week.
Veteran safety Tashaun Gipson, whom San Francisco signed on Tuesday, could suit up if needed against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10 of the 2024 NFL season, according to 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan.
“Yeah, he is in the mix, especially with [safety Malik Mustapha] being questionable,” Shanahan told reporters Friday. “Gipson got a week of practice in Jacksonville. He’s done awesome this week in his three days, and we’ll discuss that [elevation] with him over the next 24 hours. It’s nice being on the East Coast, we get until four o'clock instead of one. But those are all things -- he looks good enough to do it. [It] just kind of depends on the health of everyone else.”
Gipson was a staple in the 49ers’ secondary om their previous two seasons. He started 33 games at free safety, collecting 121 tackles, 11 passes defended and six interceptions.

San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan hilariously explained how the mix-up-turned-big-gain came to be while talking to Greg Papa on the latest edition of NBC Sports Bay Area’s “49ers Game Plan."

SANTA CLARA — Ricky Pearsall is set to play his third NFL game on Sunday, and the 49ers rookie shared he's making positive progress getting acclimated to the game, but it also has been a process.
"I’m feeling more and more comfortable each week, to be honest,” Pearsall said on Thursday. “Keep getting into this playbook, studying, going out there and executing it. I’ve only had minimal practices, so being able to go out there and run through it.”
Pearsall missed the first six games of the 2024 NFL season as he recovered from a gunshot wound sustained during an attempted armed robbery. In his two NFL appearances -- one start -- the wide receiver has been on the field for 88 offensive snaps, or 67 percent.
The first-round pick of the 2024 NFL Draft has felt improvement in his chemistry with quarterback Brock Purdy as they get more practice time and game reps together.
49ers star CMC ready to go after dark times during injury rehab
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

SANTA CLARA — The 49ers completed their Friday practice, and running back Christian McCaffrey got in one final workout before departing for the Week 10 game at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
McCaffrey said the types of his workouts have changed as he manages the condition that kept him out of action for the 49ers' first eight games of the 2024 season.
“I’ve changed a good amount,” McCaffrey said of his workout regimen. “I’m figuring it out every day. All I know is I got a good routine right now and I feel good, and that’s all that matters.”
McCaffrey said he experienced some dark times while missing most of training camp and going on injured reserve on Sept. 14 due to bilateral Achilles tendinitis.
Five 49ers to watch in vital Week 10 game vs. Buccaneers
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

The 49ers have experienced delightful times in the second halves of their past three seasons, and they will need more of the same this year if they are going to return to the NFL playoffs.
It all starts on Sunday, as the 49ers take their 4-4 record on the road to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.
The 49ers have compiled a combined 23-4 record over the final nine games of the previous three seasons.
They enter the final half of the season a half-game behind the Arizona Cardinals (5-4) in the NFC West standings.

Quarterback Brock Purdy and offensive line coach Chris Foerster know the 49ers are in for a tough challenge against Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea on Sunday.
Foerster was asked after Thursday's practice if there were any players comparable to Vea in the NFL.
“No, [there’s not],” Foerster said. “I’m trying to think of one. Vita Vea is one of a kind. I remember last time we played them up here [in Santa Clara] two years ago. They said he was sick pregame, so we were all hopeful he wasn’t playing and then we saw him out there. He looks like a middle schooler playing hacky sack, just kicking the ball around, it was unbelievable. Really talented, very agile for such a big man.”
Vea presents a unique challenge for the 49ers, as the 347-pound defensive tackle moves with remarkable speed and agility. Purdy knows he will have his work cut out for him with the 29-year-old bearing down on him.
Lynch reveals what CMC's 49ers return means for Mason, Guerendo
By Tristi Rodriguez

All signs point to Christian McCaffrey making his 2024 NFL season debut Sunday, but what does that mean for the rest of the 49ers running backs room?
While McCaffrey was rehabbing from bilateral Achilles tendinitis, backup Jordan Mason and rookie Isaac Guerendo have been holding things down for San Francisco. With McCaffrey set to return against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 49ers general manager John Lynch revealed how Mason and Guerendo's usage could be impacted.
"Throughout my years in the league, I think one of the coolest things is, you never like to see anyone get hurt, but when someone does or someone moves on to another team, opportunity presents itself," Lynch said Friday morning on KNBR's "Murph & Markus." "And who is going to step up and how are they going to step up? JP Mason has been a guy. When you make an NFL team as an undrafted free agent we cut a third-round pick at one point to keep him, so I think that speaks to you about him always being up to the task. JP kind of grinded through in this league as a backup player who closed out games but was a really good special teams player. He got his opp while Christian has been hurt, and he's really had a fantastic season.
"He's of the mindset that he'll be ready whenever we give it to him. And Isaac obviously has some special talent. We don't just draft workout warriors, we draft really good football players. ... He seems to be getting a little bit better each week. So obviously you still want to get those guys involved. They can both help on special teams. They can both help on offense. You'll still see plenty of those guys."
Rookie safety Mustapha uncertain for 49ers-Bucs game with calf injury
By Jennifer Lee Chan

SANTA CLARA — The big news of the week for the 49ers is star running back Christian McCaffrey's return, but a few new injuries popped up on the official practice report on Thursday as San Francisco prepares to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10.
After being a full participant on Wednesday, running back Jordan Mason was seen wearing a blue non-contact jersey Thursday and was listed as a limited participant on the practice report.
The third-year running back has been nursing a shoulder injury he suffered in the 49ers' Week 6 win over the Seattle Seahawks, and appears to have suffered a setback.
A new injury that could affect who is available on defense for Sunday’s game involves rookie safety Malik Mustapha, who suffered a calf injury during practice and was listed as a limited participant on the official report.
ESPN analyst boldly predicts 49ers' playoff fate after 4-4 start
By Andy Lindquist

One ESPN analyst does not have high hopes for the 49ers making the playoffs this season.
In his mid-season predictions, NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller explained why San Francisco will miss the postseason.
"A season decimated by injuries will end with the reigning NFC champions missing the postseason and keeping the Super Bowl hangover trend alive for the losing team," Miller wrote (h/t ESPN.com). "Sitting at 4-4 after a bye week, the 49ers are without Brandon Aiyuk for the season and still have Christian McCaffrey on the sideline (though he could return this week). Their defense suddenly can't make key stops, either. This looks like a lost year in the Bay."
San Francisco has had an uneven start to the season, with sloppy play and blown fourth-quarter leads leaving the team looking for answers coming out of its bye week. Despite this, the 49ers are one game back of first place in the NFC West.

He's back.
Kyle Shanahan stated Thursday on KNBR's "Tolbert & Copes" that he fully anticipates 49ers All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey to make his 2024 NFL season debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.
"I do feel good, one way or another. It's been two good days," Shanahan said. "I'm just messing around but he's been awesome these last two days and hopefully that continues to go well. I expect to get him out there.
"You never know for a setback or anything but these two days have been great and I expect to see him out there."

As of Thursday afternoon, all signs point to Christian McCaffrey making his 2024 NFL season debut against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
McCaffrey missed the 49ers' first eight games of the season with bilateral Achilles tendinitis but returned to the practice field on Monday and has practiced without issue for three consecutive sessions, a promising indicator he will return to the field on Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.
Neither McCaffrey nor 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan have confirmed the All-Pro running back's status for the game, but former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman, a fellow Stanford product who is friends with McCaffrey, recently spoke with the 49ers star about whether he will play against Tampa Bay.
"Yeah, I heard it from the horse's mouth," Sherman told co-host Mitch Eisenstein on the "Richard Sherman Podcast." "He feels really good, and he felt like he could have probably played last week, but they wanted to be overly cautious and just give him more weeks of practice and more time to work that thing out to feel comfortable, and feel confident, and he does.

SANTA CLARA — Christian McCaffrey’s return to the field could be a boon for the 49ers' offense on Sunday, and George Kittle’s enthusiasm is palpable.
“Really excited,” Kittle said on Thursday. “He’s a hell of a football player, great to have him in the huddle this week and last week a little bit. Anytime you can have a player of that caliber come back, and not just his talent level, but what he brings to the field and the team with his energy, the playmaking.
“It’s a whole new level of energy we are going to have out there.”
The reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year is set to make his 2024 debut on Sunday when the 49ers face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium. While San Francisco has been productive on the offensive side of the ball, their red zone efficacy has suffered without McCaffrey on the field.
49ers QB Purdy shares mindset shift from first NFL start vs. Bucs
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

SANTA CLARA — A lot has changed since that late-season game in 2022, when 49ers rookie quarterback Brock Purdy made his first NFL start.
One thing on Sunday that likely will be similar for Purdy and the 49ers is the return of one of the team’s top playmakers. Running back Christian McCaffrey is expected to take the field for the first time of the 2024 NFL season.
The 49ers opened the practice window this week for McCaffrey, who missed the first eight games of the season due to bilateral Achilles tendinitis. He is likely to get activated and see significant action Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“They have to account for him, for sure, and that opens up other guys in the passing game,” Purdy said on Thursday. “More than anything, we have really good playmakers across the board, and we’re going to try to get the ball into all of our guys’ hands at the right time and in the right situation.
Warner pinpoints root cause of 49ers' famous second-half surges
By Joaquin Ruiz

The 49ers oddly play better during the second halves of NFL seasons.
And San Francisco’s star linebacker, Fred Warner, believes he knows why.
“I’d hope that we’d win more before the bye as well,” Warner told reporters Wednesday. “But, for some reason, we like to make it hard on ourselves, you know. There’s something about playing desperate that makes you play a little better, I guess.”
Sometimes, the hardest path is the most rewarding. After all, Warner has helped San Francisco work its magic quite a few times over his seven years in the Bay.

The 49ers realize they’ll have plenty on their plate against quarterback Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 10 of the 2024 NFL season.
San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan, especially, is weary of the threats the 6-foot-1 signal-caller will pose Sunday at Raymond James Stadium.
“I think Baker's a stud,” Shanahan told reporters Wednesday. “I thought he was at the top of his game last year, playing really well. This year, I think he’s the same, if not better. … He’s playing at such a high level right now.”
Despite the Buccaneers’ 4-5 record and banged-up status, Mayfield -- who didn’t practice Wednesday because of a toe injury -- has kept Tampa Bay afloat. He leads the league with 23 touchdown passes and is second with 2,389 passing yards behind the Seattle Seahawks’ Geno Smith, who has 2,560.
Bosa hasn't heard from NFL on MAGA hat yet, admits he knows fine likely
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

SANTA CLARA — Nick Bosa has yet to hear from the NFL about a possible fine for breaking a league rule last week, but the 49ers defensive end said Wednesday that he knew he could be subject to punishment when he crashed a live TV interview wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat in support of Donald Trump.
“Yeah,” Bosa said. “It was well worth it.”
Trump, the Republican nominee, was declared the winner of the U.S. presidential election over Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, earlier in the day.
Bosa was asked why he felt compelled to express his political beliefs while NBC Sports’ Melissa Stark interviewed teammates George Kittle, Brock Purdy and Isaac Guerendo after the 49ers' Oct. 27 win over the Dallas Cowboys at Levi’s Stadium.
Ward remains away from 49ers; CMC, Jennings limited in practice
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

SANTA CLARA — Cornerback Charvarius Ward remains away from the 49ers while mourning his daughter’s recent passing.
Coach Kyle Shanahan said he has not talked with Ward about any timetable for his return to the 49ers.
Amani Joy Ward passed away on Oct. 28, just shy of her second birthday. A service is scheduled for Friday in Dallas, Shanahan said.
Meanwhile, the 49ers appear to be on pace to get two top offensive skill players back in action.
49ers open Gross-Matos' practice window, making practice-squad moves
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

Programming Note: Watch "49ers Now" with Matt Maiocco and Jennifer Lee Chan at 4 p.m. PT today from Santa Clara, streaming live on the NBC Sports App, YouTube and Facebook.
SANTA CLARA — The 49ers opened the practice window for defensive lineman Yetur Gross-Matos on Wednesday.
Gross-Matos appeared in three games this season before going on injured reserve due to a knee injury. He had just one tackle and one quarterback hit on the season before sustaining the injury.
The 49ers signed Gross-Matos, 26, to a two-year, $18 million contract in the offseason. He played his first four NFL seasons with the Carolina Panthers.
Why Sharpe believes 49ers will win NFC West despite sluggish start
By Andy Lindquist

Shannon Sharpe has the utmost confidence in the 49ers to make a late-season run and clinch the NFC West.
When asked about which team he has more faith in, San Francisco or the Philadelphia Eagles, the ESPN pundit explained why he likes the 49ers.
“I just trust the 49ers and Kyle Shanahan,” Sharpe said on “First Take” on Tuesday. “I don’t expect him to make boneheaded plays -- as many -- as Nick Sirianni makes. AJ Brown is still dinged a little bit.
“So obviously Christian McCaffrey, who has been hurt for a large part of the season, but they do get Jauan Jennings back, [Jon] Feliciano back, a couple of other guys back. So, I like the direction they are heading in. If they can keep these guys healthy for a substantial period of time, I expect them to come out and win the NFC West and make a strong run into the playoffs.”
49ers' latest roster move signals kicker Moody's return from injury
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

The 49ers signaled Tuesday that kicker Jake Moody is expected back in action for the team’s Week 10 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
San Francisco released kicker Anders Carlson from the practice squad in a move that opens a spot for the return of veteran safety Tashaun Gipson.
The move likely means Moody is being counted upon to return to action Sunday after missing three games due to a high right ankle sprain.
Moody said on Monday that he is progressing well from the injury sustained during the Oct. 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals, when he was injured while trying to make a tackle on a kickoff return.
Report: 49ers reunite with veteran safety in practice-squad move
By Tristi Rodriguez

The 49ers are reuniting with a familiar face, signing veteran safety Tashaun Gipson to their practice squad, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported Tuesday, citing a source.
The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Gipson to a one-year contract for the 2024 NFL season but cut him Monday, prompting the 49ers to quickly make a move on the 34-year-old.
Gibson hasn't appeared in a game this season because of a six-game suspension he received for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy.
The 49ers haven't officially announced Gipson's signing, but they did release kicker Anders Carlson from their practice squad Tuesday, so they have an opening. San Francisco also waived linebacker Jalen Graham from the active roster.
Why 49ers made Davis trade, a value acquisition, over big-time move
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

The 49ers’ roster did not remain static Tuesday through the NFL trade deadline.
Just before the 1 p.m. PT window closed, the 49ers added a little-known defensive tackle who figures to see action as part of the team’s rotation.
The 49ers acquired backup defensive lineman Khalil Davis from the Houston Texans for a 2026 seventh-round draft pick, a source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area.
It was not a big splash, but the 49ers determined it was a fit that did not come at much of a cost.
Source: 49ers acquire DT depth from Texans at trade deadline
By Tristi Rodriguez

The 49ers and the rest of the NFL had up until 1 p.m. PT. Tuesday to make a move at the trade deadline, and San Francisco waited until those final moments to do so.
San Francisco acquired fourth-year defensive tackle Khalil Davis from the Houston Texans for a 2026 seventh-round pick, a source confirmed to NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco.
NFL Media's Ian Rapoport first reported the news Tuesday.
Davis will provide the 49ers with some much-needed D-line depth after they lost defensive tackle Javon Hargrave for the 2024 NFL season due to a partially torn triceps. Hargrave could return, however, if San Francisco makes a deep playoff run.
How Guerendo will stay ready, learn from CMC upon 49ers star's return
By Joaquin Ruiz

Rookie running back Isaac Guerendo is excited to watch and learn when Christian McCaffrey makes his 2024 NFL season debut for the 49ers.
“That’s always been something I look forward to, you know,” Guerendo told reporters Monday about learning from McCaffrey. “Even in the preseason and stuff -- honestly, before like in draft prep, just knowing I was going to be here -- I was looking forward to being part of a great room.
“And then, to obviously learn from a guy [McCaffrey] like that, but everybody in that room is exciting to learn from; it’s been great. I’m excited for him to be back, and I know he’s excited to be back. You know how hard he’s been working, so I’m excited for it.”
San Francisco selected Guerendo at No. 129 overall out of Louisville in the 2024 NFL Draft. As a senior, he tallied 1,044 yards from scrimmage with 11 touchdowns on 154 touches.
Moody doesn't rule out return from injury for 49ers-Bucs game
By Jennifer Lee Chan

SANTA CLARA — Nearly a month after Jake Moody was sidelined by a high ankle sprain in Week 5, the 49ers kicker made his return to the practice field Monday.
Moody injured his ankle trying to make a tackle on a kickoff return after coverage broke down, and explained that the result of the awkward tackle could have been a lot worse.
“I’ve had people, medical people, saying that from how bad it looked, they are pretty surprised that it was just what it was, and it wasn’t anything worse,” Moody said, before adding with a laugh, “I’m glad to hear that, and hopefully I won’t be put in that situation again. And I’ll learn how to tackle better.”
The 49ers have missed Moody on the field, especially his leg strength on kickoffs. Moody is known for his ability to send kickoffs deep into the end zone, preventing a return.

The San Francisco 49ers are back from their bye week, ready to make a playoff push.
San Francisco (4-4) currently is third in the NFC West following three-game wins streaks by both the Arizona Cardinals (5-4) and Los Angeles Rams (4-4). The 49ers blew double-digit leads to lose to both Arizona and LA earlier this season.
But now's the time for San Francisco to move past the slow start and embark on the late runs it has been known for under coach Kyle Shanahan, beginning with Christian McCaffrey's expected availability after the star running back returned to practice Monday.
Up next is a road matchup at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are second in the NFC South but struggling with key injuries to star wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
Excited Williams believes CMC's return ‘amazing feeling' for 49ers
By Jennifer Lee Chan

SANTA CLARA — The 49ers welcomed Christian McCaffrey back to the practice field on Monday, and Trent Williams was elated for his teammate’s return.
“Such an amazing feeling to see that 23 out there doing his extensive warm-up,” Williams said. “Those million high knees he does before practice, great seeing.”
Williams has dealt with his own injuries in the past and understands how challenging it can be for a player to be kept away from playing. The All-Pro left tackle felt the energy that McCaffrey’s presence brought to the short, bonus practice session.
“Me, myself I was energized,” Williams said. “It was a very short practice. We only had one team period but I was energized and I and super super happy for him that it turned the corner and he’s able to go out and do what he loves again.”
CMC returns to 49ers practice after lengthy IR stint
By Matt Maiocco, 49ers Insider

SANTA CLARA — Running back Christian McCaffrey is back on the practice field.
And if everything goes smoothly for the rest of the week, McCaffrey could suit up and make his season debut for the 49ers on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 49ers on Monday opened the practice window for McCaffrey and designated him for return off the injured reserve list as he returns from Achilles tendinitis in both legs. San Francisco also opened the practice window for veteran offensive lineman Jon Feliciano, whom the club placed on injured reserve on Aug. 28 with a knee injury.
Both wide receiver Jauan Jennings and kicker Jake Moody also were on hand for the early portion of Monday's practice.

John Lynch sits down with Greg Papa on “49ers Gameplan” to discuss Dre Greenlaw and Jake Moody’s timeline of returning to play for 49ers.
John Lynch is optimistic that Dre Greenlaw and Jake Moody soon will return to the 49ers.
On the latest episode of NBC Sports Bay Area's “49ers Game Plan,” San Francisco's president of football operations/general manager explained how important Greenlaw is to the team and how soon he might be to returning.
“Well, he’s getting closer,” Lynch told Greg Papa. “Dre is a tone-setter in every respect of that label. I think that’s probably the most positive compliment I can give someone.
“Dre, his physicality with which he plays, his speech with which he plays, his mind. He diagnoses things really quick and he goes at gets it. He’s a sure tackle in space, so much of today’s football is played in space. And Dre, he just eliminates people and options with how fast he plays. When you have him and Fred [Warner] out there together it’s a lethal combination.”

Programming note: Watch Greg Papa's full "Game Plan" interview with John Lynch at 9 p.m. PT Friday on NBC Sports Bay Area.
It appears Christian McCaffrey is nearing his long-awaited 49ers return.
As San Francisco enjoys its much-needed bye week, the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year is hard at work preparing for a potential return in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.
After 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan told local reporters earlier this week the team hopes to open McCaffrey's 21-day practice window Monday for the team's bonus practice, president of football operations/general manager John Lynch confirmed as much to Greg Papa on the latest episode of "49ers Game Plan," while detailing the cautious approach the team has taken with McCaffrey's ramp-up process this season.

Why Lynch believes 49ers' best football lies ahead after slow start
By Angelina Martin

The 2024 NFL season is far from over, but it already has been a long road for the 49ers.
Headed into the Week 9 bye with a 4-4 record and injury-ravaged roster, San Francisco is hoping to build momentum in the campaign's second half ahead of a potential playoff run -- and the team's president of football operations/general manager John Lynch believes it's a given.
"It is difficult," Lynch told NBC's Rodney Harrison on "Sunday Night Football" after the 49ers' Week 8 win over the Dallas Cowboys. "Staying healthy is so critical in this league, and it's happened to a lot of our best players -- Brandon Aiyuk last week, and Christian McCaffrey, we haven't played with him yet. Those guys are game-changers, and that's tough.
"But, proud of the team. We've let a couple wins we had in our grasp go, so we wish we were a little better right now, but we're still in this thing and I know there's better football in front of us, and we just got to keep going. McCaffrey, we're hopeful to get him back here after this bye, and Dre Greenlaw hopefully in the near future.
