49ers scheduled to host Florida State edge rusher Brian Burns on visit

Florida State edge rusher Brian Burns, a projected first-round draft pick, is scheduled to make a visit to meet with the 49ers in Santa Clara.

The 49ers own the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, but Burns could be an option for the club if they trade back to acquire more selections. The 49ers’ next scheduled pick is No. 36 overall. Burns is mostly viewed as a mid-first-round selection.

Burns, appearing on Chris Simms Unbuttoned, listed the 49ers, along with Tampa Bay, Detroit, the New York Giants and Indianapolis among the organizations he is scheduled to visit in the near future. He said the Colts have shown the most interest in him among those teams. Indianapolis as the No. 26 overall pick.

Simms asked him if there is a weakness in his game that keeps coming up when he speaks with NFL teams.

“Definitely, speed-to-power (and) point of attack,” Burns said. “Those are my main two things that they ask me about because I usually just show my speed and my speed-rushing and my counter-moves. I don’t really convert to speed to power, but that’s one thing I’m definitely going to work on. I’ve been working on it already.”

Burns registered 23 sacks in 33 games over three seasons at Florida State. He had a career-best 10 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss as a junior in 2018 before declaring for the NFL draft.

Burns (6-foot-5, 249 pounds) ran a 4.53 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine in February.
