Two weeks after MCL sprain, Curry provides positive update on recovery

Joining Warriors fans as an observer during the last eight games, Stephen Curry is unable to play and has not had much to like. They’ve gone 3-5 and it’s evident he is greatly missed.

Curry took a few minutes Sunday to provide some encouraging news about his rehab process after spraining the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee on March 23.

“I haven’t had any setbacks; that’s the positive,” he said while sitting in the NBC Sports Bay Area crew during the telecast of the Warriors-Suns game in Phoenix. “Every day there’s been something good advancing the rehab progress. I’m looking forward to hopefully making more progress as we look forward to the playoffs.”

Curry is not scheduled for reevaluation until next weekend, which coincides with the beginning of the NBA playoffs. The typical recovery time for a Grade 2 MCL sprain runs between four and six weeks.

The Warriors are hopeful that Curry can return in the second round, should they advance out of the first.

Wearing a brace around his left knee, Curry participated in some light individual work prior to the game at Talking Stick Resort Arena, mostly taking passes and putting up shots.

“I’m just trying to get some rhythm, some strength back, some flexibility and range of motion...the standard process when dealing with the knee,” he said.

Though he did not travel with the Warriors to Oklahoma City and Indiana last week, Curry was able to make the trip to Phoenix and will accompany the team to Salt Lake City for the season finale Tuesday night.
