Team USA group draw, schedule revealed for 2016 Rio Olympics

Five men’s basketball teams in FIBA’s top 10 have already qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Team USA won’t have to face any of the other four in group play.

Here are the groups, which were drawn today, with each team’s FIBA ranking:

Group A

  • 1. United States
  • 11. Australia
  • 14. China
  • 22. Venezuela
  • Olympic Qualifying Tournament winner
  • Olympic Qualifying Tournament winner

Team USA's first game comes on Aug. 6 versus China, followed by Venezuela on Aug. 8 and Australia on Aug. 10. The U.S. will play the other two group teams on Aug. 12 and Aug. 14.

Warriors guards Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson were on the gold-medal winning team at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, while forward Andre Iguodala suited up for Team USA at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
