Steph still unsure on joining Team USA for Tokyo Olympics

Steph Curry didn't rule it out by any means, but the Warriors star remains unsure about whether he will be competing for Team USA in the postponed 2020 Olympics, set to begin later this summer.

"Obviously everything was geared towards extending this season as far as possible, and honestly, I know there's a lot of conversation and chatter about logistics and the set up and all that type of stuff, I don't know what that looks like from Team USA, so trying to gather as much information as possible and make the right decision for me at the end of the day," Curry told reporters after Friday’s 117-112 season-ending loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Curry also acknowledged that the delayed start to the 2020-21 NBA season would have required a quick turnaround, regardless of when the Warriors' season came to a close. Instead of the regular-season ending as it normally does in mid-April, it extended into the middle of May.

In March, Team USA announced 57 finalists for the Olympic basketball team. Curry and Draymond Green were the only two Warriors among the group.

Steph never has played in the Olympics for Team USA, as he wasn't selected in 2012 and withdrew from consideration in 2016 after winning his second NBA MVP and laboring through another extended playoff run.

Curry was part of two Team USA squads that won gold medals at the FIBA World Cup in 2010 and 2014.

The 33-year-old looked like his old self this year after missing nearly all of the 2019-20 season, winning the NBA scoring title and being named an MVP finalist.

There haven't been any updates on when training camps will begin for the U.S. National Team, but it's hard to imagine Curry wouldn't be intrigued by potentially getting a chance at his first Olympic competition.

Whether Curry or Green or both end up representing Team USA, the Warriors still will have plenty of representation at this summer's games in Tokyo.

Steve Kerr still is a member of the National Team coaching staff, and some of the Warriors' international players could compete for their respective countries this summer. Andrew Wiggins is one of Canada's best players, but said earlier this season he also wasn't sure about playing this summer. Mychal Mulder also hails from Canada and could find himself in the running after taking a big step in his first full season with the Warriors.

Nico Mannion has represented Italy in international competition before, but the nation last medaled at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

After how well Curry played this season, he certainly should have the chance to play for Team USA. Whether he will choose to remains to be seen.
