From one G.O.A.T. to another.
Steph Curry surpassed basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain as the Warriors’ all-time leading scorer Monday against the Denver Nuggets. Chamberlain had previously held the franchise record since 1965 with 17,783 career points.
Curry broke Chamberlain's record in the first quarter Monday, scoring all 19 points he needed. He officially passed Chamberlain with a driving layup with 1:40 remaining in the first quarter.

Curry shared his thoughts earlier this month on his pursuit of Chamberlain, a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer.
"That's surreal to be honest, I don't know how many years he played here but he's got a lot of buckets," Curry told reporters. "Obviously he's a legend and remains across the whole league, but obviously wearing a Warriors uniform and having been here my whole career, it's pretty crazy.”
Curry has been on a tear since returning from a tailbone injury that has forced him to miss six games since March 17. But he’s still not even close to Chamberlain’s statistical level.

Clearly, it was a different game back in the day, but 7-foot-1 Wilt put up some silly numbers when he was in a Warriors uniform.
Chamberlain averaged 41.5 points per game on 50.6 percent shooting from 1959-1965, when the franchise was located in Philadelphia and San Francisco. His best scoring season came in 1961-62 when he averaged an absurd 50.4 points per game. His “worst” came during 1963-64, when he averaged "only" 36.9 points per game.
Curry entered Monday's contest averaging 29.9 points per game, his highest average since his unanimous MVP season in 2015-16 when he averaged 30.1 points per game.
After 11-plus seasons, Curry eventually ended up where he belongs -- at the top of the franchise leaderboard in points.

As he has said repeatedly throughout the season, Curry believes he has plenty more gas in the tank. The way he has played lately, there’s no reason to think he won’t put some major distance between himself and Wilt by the end of his career.
