The Worcester Sharks played Providence Friday night, and there were two noteworthy items of news from the game.
The first bit of news came prior to puck-drop, when left wing John McCarthy was recalled to the San Jose Sharks. He leads Worcester in points. He was sent to the minors on Oct. 3, 2011.
McCarthy, 25, has four points in 41 games with the San Jose Sharks over the past two seasons.

The other news surrounds the Worcester goalie; Antero Niittymaki made his first start on his second conditioning assignment with San Jose's AHL affiliate.
Niittymaki took the loss as Worcester fell 3-2. He made 23 saves in the chippy match.
