Proud of Wonderlic score? 49ers third-round pick Warner ‘a decently smart guy'

With the 70th pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, the 49ers selected...

Fred Warner -- linebacker from BYU.

Does he take pride in the fact that he had one of the highest Wonderlic scores of everybody in the draft?

"Absolutely. I'm not exactly sure how everybody else scored. My agent told me I got a 32 -- I don't know what the average is or anything like that," Warner told reporters on Thursday. "All those tests at the Combine -- you kind of have to take them with a grain of salt.

"I think I'm a decently smart guy."

The 49ers' first two picks -- Mike McGlinchey and Dante Pettis -- also recorded 32s on the Wonderlic.

Warner expects to play inside linebacker with the 49ers.

At 6'3", he's one of the tallest linebackers around.

"They did talk to me about how they liked my size," Warner said. "When they talked to me about where they see me in the scheme -- they just talked about what I do well."

And just to be clear -- despite his height, he does not have a background as a defensive back.
