After months of speculation that Brady might be tempted to join the team he grew up rooting for, those rumors became reality.

Brady, 42, grew up in San Mateo and went to Serra High School. Long before he became a six-time Super Bowl champion with New England, Brady rooted for Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana and the 49ers.

Brady was at Candlestick Park to watch Montana find the late Dwight Clark for "The Catch" in the 1982 NFC Championship Game.

Brady will now get a chance to follow in the footsteps of Montana and don the 49ers' iconic jersey.

Brady's addition assuredly means the end of Jimmy Garoppolo's time with the 49ers. He guided the 49ers to Super Bowl LIV where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

While Garoppolo is 14 years younger than Brady and has three years left on his contract, the 49ers couldn't pass up the chance to add one of the best quarterbacks to ever play.
