A's prospect Jemile Weeks, who has been tearing up Triple-A pitching, will be called up to the big club shortly, CSNBayArea.com has learned from a Major League source.
The roster move will be announced Tuesday. The promotion suggests that the injury to A's second baseman Mark Ellis, who left Monday's game in Baltimore with a hamstring strain, is serious enough to warrant a trip to the disabled list.

Weeks left Sacramento's game Monday at Colorado in the first inning, but was not injured, which suggests he's headed to the East Coast to join the A's. Weeks entered June hitting .331 with three home runs and 21 RBI in Triple-A.
Speed is a big part of Weeks' game. At Sacramento he has six doubles and four triples in addition to eight stolen bases.
He is the younger brother of Milwaukee second baseman Rickie Weeks. He was selected by Oakland in the first round (12th overall) of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft.

Weeks is widely considered the heir apparent to Ellis at second base.
