Klay's dad sees Warriors as ‘scary' title threat when healthy

Steph Curry spoke to reporters following the Warriors’ comeback win vs. the Lakers on opening night.

The Warriors opened some eyes Tuesday night with an impressive 121-114 season-opening win over the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center.

Golden State was triumphant despite an off night from Steph Curry, who shot 5-for-21 from the field in what the two-time MVP called a "trash" performance. The Warriors won thanks to contributions from Jordan Poole (20 points), Nemanja Bjelica (15), Damion Lee (15) and Andre Iguodala (12), showing they are a much deeper team than a season ago.

The win also came without Klay Thompson, James Wiseman and Jonathan Kuminga as all three currently are rehabbing from injuries.

Thompson's father, Mychal Thompson, who is the color analyst for the Lakers, sees the Warriors as a true title threat once they get healthy.

"The Warriors, oh they are scary," Mychal Thompson told KNBR on Wednesday. "I mean you saw what they could be last night with Steph having an off-night. Now, imagine them with Wiseman and Klay healthy. They are definitely a threat. They are a team that if they get those two players back and they stay healthy, yeah, the Warriors are definitely a championship threat."

Mychal Thompson also was quick to note that he believes the Lakers will, at the very least, make the Western Conference finals and that their poor performance on Opening Night is nothing to be concerned about.

As for Klay, who is expected to return to the court before the calendar year is over, Mychal had no new update on the Warriors star's rehab other than to suggest everyone check Instagram. That's all you need to see.

"I don't need to [update you]," Thompson said. "You guys have seen all the videos. You can tell from his videos he is feeling good and looking good. The Warriors are taking their time with him.

"I know one thing, from looking at his videos his shot looks better than ever!"
