Kerr admits Steph wants to send clear message to NBA's stars

Two of the NBA’s highest-scoring point guards squared off Monday at Chase Center and Steph Curry bested Atlanta’s Trae Young with 50 points and a 127-113 victory.

Candace Parker knew it was coming. With Trae Young at Chase Center on Monday, Parker believed the Warriors star would look to send a message to the Atlanta Hawks young star.

Curry did just that, dropping 50 in the Warriors' 127-113 win. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr went on 95.7 The Game on Tuesday and noted that Curry's competitiveness has the two-time MVP looking to send a message to the rest of the NBA's elite players.

"When I say Steph is competitive on a lot of different levels, that's kind of what I mean," Kerr told "Damon and Ratto." "He finds ways to motivate himself and it's not fake. It's real. He wants to win a championship. He wants to beat the best teams. He wants to let other players in the league know that he's still got it.

"He's going to take on the challenge whether it's LeBron [James] or one of the best players in the league, or a young guy like Trae who is up and coming and maybe following in Steph's footsteps. All of that stuff factors in and is one of the reasons he is as great as he is. It goes so far beyond the skill. It's the competitive desire and the belief in himself that he can follow through on that competitiveness."

After missing most of the 2019-20 season, Curry returned last season with a fury, leading the NBA in scoring while finishing as one of the top MVP candidates.

However, the Warriors missed the playoffs despite Curry's otherworldly season.

So far this season, Curry hasn't shot the ball up to his normal lofty standards, but the Warriors are an NBA-best 9-1 and still have a ton of room to get better.

After five years at the top of the NBA, many were waiting for Curry to fall from grace. It hasn't happened yet, and The Baby-Faced Assassin is out to remind everyone that he remains one of the best players in the game.
