Report: Sharks soon will remove coach Boughner's interim tag

The Sharks named Bob Boughner their head coach on Dec. 11, 2019. However, that came with an interim tag.

That title reportedly soon will change

"For a while now, all indications were that Bob Boughner would have his interim tag removed in San Jose and I’m told that’s finally going to happen over the next week or two," The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun reported Wednesday.

Boughner, 49, replaced Peter DeBoer as San Jose's coach in December. The Sharks went 14-20-3 under Boughner and failed to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

DeBoer, on the other hand, was hired in January by the Vegas Golden Knights, and led them to a 15-5-2 record in the regular season. Vegas made it all the way to the Western Conference finals before falling to the Dallas Stars

Boughner also went 80-62-22 as the Florida Panthers' coach over the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. He has a 94-82-25 career record as a head coach in the NHL.
