The Giants have claimed Padres reliever Heath Bell, according to a report from ESPN's Buster Olney.
He posted the following message on Twitter at approximately 10:30 a.m.:
"As expected, Giants are the team that was awarded the claim on Bell. Whether the GiantsSD can make a deal could depend on Wilson concern"
Bell was placed on waiver Monday by San Diego and it was rumored that Arizona GM Kevin Towers was interested in the burly right-hander.
San Diego could pull back Bell off waivers unless it's satisfied with the compensation. The Padres would get compensatory draft picks for Bell ifwhen he leaves as a free agent following this season.
