SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants outfielder Carlos Beltran is still experiencing soreness in his right wrist.

He was out of the lineup for Monday's series opener with the Pirates and San Francisco manager Bruce Bochy said before the game that Beltran would get an MRI on the joint.

Beltran sustained the injury on Sunday against the Phillies. X-rays were negative but the slugger remains day to day.

With Beltran out of the lineup, Nate Schierholtz was in the lineup as a right-fielder with Aaron Rowand penciled in on Bochy's lineup card in left.

The injury occurred on a swing in the series finale with the Phillies. Beltran felt pain on the top of his right hand while striking out in the sixth inning. He left the game prior to the start of the eighth.

Bochy said that Beltran acknowledged he didn't feel right between innings.

After the seventh inning was over, Beltran went to the batting cage to test the wrist and wasn't comfortable with the results, so Bochy removed him from the game.

Bochy emphasized Monday that he was hopeful Beltran could return to the lineup on Tuesday.
