This means that Looney -- who signed a three-year, $14.5 million contract in 2019 -- is slated to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2021-22 season ends.
The 25-year-old averaged 4.1 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 61 games (34 starts) last season.
Looney is a valuable rotation player and is a favorite of coach Steve Kerr.
The No. 30 overall pick from the 2015 draft in mid-May was asked if he believes Steph Curry will buy him a gift for registering a bunch of screen assists that helped the two-time NBA MVP win the scoring title.
