The Athletics bolstered their bullpen Friday by agreeing to a free-agent contract with reliever Trevor May.

While the team didn't disclose terms of the contract, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported, citing sources familiar with the deal, that it is a one-year, $7 million pact.

Per Passan, May will receive a $1 million signing bonus and can make an additional $500,000 in performance bonuses.

May, 33, spent the last two seasons with the New York Mets after playing the first six seasons of his MLB career with the Minnesota Twins.

Last season, May made 26 appearances for the Mets and posted a 5.04 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 25 innings. He missed three months with an inflamed right triceps.

Overall, May has a 4.35 ERA in 309 career appearances, including 26 starts.

May joins an A's bullpen that finished with a 4.31 ERA in 2022, 24th in all of MLB.

Coincidentally, May made his MLB debut for the Twins at the Oakland Coliseum against the A's on Aug. 9, 2014. He started the game and allowed three hits and four earned runs and walked seven batters while taking the loss.

May has made eight career appearances at the Coliseum, but the results haven't been great. He has allowed 10 earned runs and walked 11 batters in 9 1/3 innings.

Those numbers are a small sample size, and the A's hope May is able to exorcise his Coliseum demons in 2023.
