Giants prevent Dodgers from breaking 1963 MLB record

After three games of scoreless ball, the Dodgers needed five more perfect innings going into Thursday's game against the Giants at AT&T Park. It could've meant the record books.

They continued their strong start in San Francisco. But after 31 consecutive scoreless innings, and needing just one more inning to tie the record set in 1963, they didn't get it.

Brandon Crawford scored on a Denard Span ground out in the fifth inning, ending their run. 

If Los Angeles starter Alex Wood made it through the fifth inning without allowing a run, he would help the Dodgers match a major league record with 32 consecutive scoreless innings to begin a season. The only other team to do so was the 1963 Cardinals, who relented a run with no outs in the sixth inning of their fourth game.
