Sharks defenseman Douglas Murray left the ice after he took a puck to the throat early in the first period of the Sharks' 6-5 overtime loss to Tampa Bay.
It was initially reported that his return was doubtful, but a Sharks spokesman later informed the media that he had been taken to the hospital for "precautionary observation."
Just four minutes into the game, the Lightning's Vincent Lecavalier made a pass toward the front of the net. Murray got his stick on it, but it deflected directly up and into his throat area. He crumpled to the ice, but eventually got up, clutching his neck.
