How Moore, 49ers' O-line are being helped by injured Williams

ATLANTA — The 49ers' offensive line has felt the impact of the injury bug, but it was actually one of the brighter spots in a 28-14 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Left tackle Trent Williams, who has missed three games with a high ankle sprain, has a chance to return to the field in Week 7 against the Kansas City Chiefs, but the group is still without swing tackle Colton McKivitz (knee) and lost right tackle Mike McGlinchey to a calf injury against the Falcons.

McGlinchey’s timetable is unknown, but Daniel Brunskill, who took his place in the second half on Sunday’s contest could remain in the position as needed. Left tackle Jaylon Moore spoke to NBC Sports Bay Area after the game and shared how they have been able to be successful with several different personnel groupings.

“It’s tough but you just got to keep refocusing every snap,” Moore said. “Keep it as close to a perfect game as possible.”

The group as a whole did not allow a quarterback sack on any of Jimmy Garoppolo’s 41 attempts on Sunday, and he was often seen with a healthy amount of time to throw in the pocket after the snap.

Moore attributes the offensive line's success in large part to Williams coaching him up on the sidelines during games. The young tackle says the information has been invaluable and has helped improve his game after his inauspicious seven snaps when he replaced Williams in Week 3.

“He’s always in my ear talking to me about the mental side of it just thinking two steps in front of the opponent,” Moore said. “He’s very useful in helping me implement that into my game and making it become natural for me as well.”

While Moore knows his play is a work in progress, he looks to the All-Pro tackle for guidance after every drive.

“Most of the time when something happens, we make eye contact and kind of talk about it and bumps ideas off of each other,” Moore said. “I like to hear what he has to think about it. I try to emulate him as much as possible.”

Getting advice from the best, will surely rub off on Moore as he goes through his development as an offensive lineman.
