Few teams in the NFL rated worse than the 49ers on special teams during the 2021 season.

The Green Bay Packers were at the bottom of the heap, as they showed with their special-teams meltdowns in their NFC divisional-round playoff loss to the 49ers.

On Tuesday, the 49ers agreed to terms with one of the Packers’ top special-teams players to be a core contributor for Brian Schneider, the 49ers' new coordinator.

Linebacker Oren Burks announced on social media he will be joining the 49ers after spending his first four seasons with the Packers. The deal is two years for $5 million, reported ESPN.

The open negotiating period opened Monday morning. Teams are allowed to officially sign free agents from other teams beginning Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Burks entered the NFL in 2018 as a third-round pick from Vanderbilt.
