Former 49ers receiver Marquise Goodwin opts out of 2020 NFL season

Add a former 49ers receiver to the growing list of players who have opted out of the 2020 NFL season due to coronavirus concerns.

Marquise Goodwin, whom the 49ers traded to the Philadelphia Eagles during the NFL draft, will not play this season. The speedy receiver announced the news Tuesday.

"This is my reason, y'all," Goodwin said while showing his newly born baby. "She is the reason I'm opting out for the season. After choosing football so many times, I feel I am inclined to make the right decision in choosing my family first."

Goodwin and his wife, Morgan, had baby Marae on Feb. 19, 2020. The birth came after they have suffered two miscarriages since November 2017.

"I won’t take the chance of experiencing another loss because of my selfish decision making," Goodwin said. "I can't do it. It's not something I'm willing to live with."
