
The 49ers signed receiver John Matthews, who spent 13 weeks on the team's practice squad, to a reservefuture contract for the 2012 season.
Teams are allowed to sign players who did not finish the 2012 season on NFL rosters to reservefuture contracts. The contract does not officially begin until March 13, the first day of the new league year.
Matthews (6-foot, 200 pounds) played at the University of San Diego under 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh.Last week, the 49ers signed seven players to reservefuture contracts: Center Chase Beeler, tackle Derek Hall, safety Mark LeGree, defensive back Cory Nelms, receiverlong-snapper Kyle Nelson, tight end Konrad Reuland and linebacker Michael Wilhoite.
