Wiggins' defense on Kawhi encapsulates value to Warriors

Prior to the Los Angeles Clippers' back-to-back games at Chase Center last week, Kawhi Leonard had committed just seven total turnovers through six games played.

But in just one night against the Warriors, Leonard matched that total, with seven turnovers in LA's 108-101 win. Andrew Wiggins' excellent coverage of Leonard throughout the two games played a major role in Kawhi's turnover-prone week in the Bay Area, as Twitter user @antonin_org broke down in the video below.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke to reporters after practice on Saturday about how important Wiggins' defense, along with fellow starting wing Kelly Oubre, will be to match up against teams like the Clippers this season.

"His defense has been great for us," Kerr told reporters Saturday. "We need him badly, we need Andrew badly, and it's such a relief for me as a coach after last year, not having the horses to deal with the Paul Georges and Kawhi Leonards of the world, what a relief knowing I've got Kelly (Oubre) and Andrew to defend on the wings.

"What I love about both guys is they have embraced the challenge of guarding the best guys and doing the job."

The Warriors split the pair of games in San Francisco with the Clippers, bouncing back to secure a 10-point win on Friday night behind 38 points from Steph Curry.

Wiggins also is averaging 17.6 points per game on the offensive side, and is making 40.5 percent of his attempts from 3-point range. He is listed as questionable for the Warriors' matchup with the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night due to foot soreness, but The Athletic's Anthony Slater reported that Wiggins is "likely" to play.

If the Warriors can get a little more from Oubre on the offensive end and both players can maintain their solid defense, elite opposing wings like Leonard will continue to run into problems when matching up with the Warriors.
