Why Lacob believes Warriors trading Wiseman ‘very unlikely'

Warriors president of basketball operations Bob Myers in late May made it very clear that he expects James Wiseman to play for the Warriors next season.

So is Golden State not going to entertain trade offers for the No. 2 overall pick from the 2020 draft?

"Very unlikely," Warriors owner Joe Lacob said on The TK Show podcast with The Athletic's Tim Kawakami. "It would take a lot to make me and Bob think about doing anything like that. People who talk like that -- they don't understand the cap [and] they don't understand the economics of the NBA.

"We need young players under good contracts to intersperse with what is already the highest payroll in the history of the NBA ... you just can't keep adding the luxury tax [and] the repeater [tax]. It's not possible. It's just not possible ... we have to sort of try to bridge a gap between now and the future."

The Warriors hope Wiseman -- who underwent surgery on April 15 to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee -- is able to participate in training camp in late September.

Then again, you can't completely rule out the possibility that the 20-year-old is on another team at that time.

"The answer to your question is -- never say never," Lacob told Kawakami. "We will look at everything. We always will look at everything. If something came along that blew us away, all bets are off. But I think it's extremely unlikely.

"I think we're gonna roll with James Wiseman, the emerging Jordan Poole -- [who] turned out to be a great draft choice -- and two lottery picks in a great draft. I think that's a great way to go."

The draft lottery is Tuesday night and the draft will be held July 29.
