‘Honest and logical' Popovich would be surprised if Kawhi returns this year

Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich delivered some big news on Wednesday afternoon regarding Kawhi Leonard.

"I'll be surprised if he returns this season," Popovich told reporters. "He's still not ready to go. If by some chance he is, it's gonna be pretty late into the season. And it's gonna be a tough decision.

"That's why I'm just trying to be honest and logical. I'll be surprised if he gets back this year."

Kawhi -- who finished third in the MVP voting last season -- has only appeared in nine games this season because of an ailing quadricep injury.

"We've got to move on," Popovich added. "The team has to realize that this is who we are, this is who we have ... wishing and hoping doesn't do anybody any good."
