Draymond ‘absolutely' interested in being Warrior for life

Draymond Green’s future with the Warriors remains uncertain. As it stands, the veteran forward has two routes this offseason: Exercise his player option for the 2023-24 season or opt out and become an unrestricted free agent.

Although Green has two paths he can take once the 2022-23 NBA season ends, the 32-year-old has made it clear he “absolutely” wants to remain in the Bay Area and play his entire NBA career with the Warriors.

“It’s incredible when you look at the amount of guys who’ve played for only one team,” Green told Andscape's Marc J. Spears in a recent interview. “You can look around the NBA right now. There are five guys that’s been on a team for 11 years-plus. We have three of them [along with Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson].

“It’s a very rare thing. There’s 470, 480 players in the NBA? There are five guys that’s been with his team for 11 years plus. That’s amazing. So, you don’t just give that away. So, absolutely I’d be interested in that. If you had the opportunity to, you relish that opportunity. But in saying that, I do understand that this is a business. And ultimately, decisions have to be made.”

Should Green decide to trigger his player option and stay with the Warriors for the 2023-24 NBA season, he will be slated to make $27.5 million.

Even if he decides to opt out or opt in, he has full confidence in his agent, Klutch Sports Group’s Rich Paul, to get him that last home run contract, whether with Golden State or elsewhere.

“I have a great agent [Rich Paul],” Green said. “The best agent in the business. That’s why you align yourself with an incredible agent, because they handle the business. I play basketball. That’s what I want.”
