The Athletics added veteran infield depth Wednesday afternoon, agreeing to a two-year contract with versatile infielder Aledmys Díaz.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported that Díaz will receive around $14 million from Oakland.

The 32-year-old Díaz spent the last four seasons with the AL West-rival Houston Astros.

Díaz was initially drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and spent the first two seasons of his career there, where he was named to his one and only MLB All-Star game and finished fifth for the NL Rookie of the Year award in 2016.

Overall, Díaz is a career .266/.320/.443 hitter with 74 career home runs and 269 RBI. On defense, he is the true definition of a super-utility player, logging games in left field, right field, second base, shortstop, first base and third base last season for Houston.

Second-year manager Mark Kotsay likely will use Díaz all over the field and he should provide the A's with a reliable veteran presence in 2023.
