MLB rumors: Dodgers still in Bryce Harper hunt; team reps in Las Vegas

Giants fans’ worst nightmare might be happening.

That’s because MLB.com’s Jesse Sanchez dropped this Sunday night bombshell: The Dodgers “are still in play” for Bryce Harper, according to a source, and it appears they’re visiting with the free-agent slugger.

Harper met with Phillies owner John Middleton earlier in the week, and talks reportedly were about to hit “a crossroads,” ESPN’s Buster Olney reported. That crossroads might be Dodgers officials, including manager Dave Roberts, seeing Harper in his hometown of Las Vegas, per Sanchez.

Many believed the Dodgers were out on Harper after they signed A.J. Pollock to a four-year, $50 million contract last month. Evidently that’s not true, and L.A. has both the financial clout and the lineup spot, with Pollock in center field and Joc Pederson in left. Putting Harper in right sure would give the Dodgers a stacked outfield -- and Giants fans a stomach ache.

The Giants could stop all this, of course, but the rumored term (10 years) and price ($300 million-plus) that Harper seeks are problematic for them. Even more problematic: Harper launching homers into McCovey Cove while wearing Dodger Blue.

The horror.
