Raiders notes: Might Wisniewski move back to guard?

ALAMEDA -- While Stefen Wisniewski has not played since injuring his right calf against the Dallas Cowboys in the Raiders' preseason opener on Aug. 13, Alex Parsons has filled in at center admirably.Still, offensive coordinator Greg Knapp said both Wisniewski and Parsons would be "up" on Monday for the Raiders' regular season opener against San Diego."Were going to evaluate them during the week how practice is going to decide whos the starting center, per se, and the other one will be the backup guardcenter rotation guy," Knapp said."Once you get into season mode, well suit up seven (offensive linemen). We have to have a swing-guy inside and a swing tackle."So did you catch that? Wisniewski is also working at guard -- he was a standout left guard as a rookie last season -- after missing the entire offseason training activities while recovering from shoulder surgery and then going down with the calf issue.It would make sense to move Wisniewski back to left guard, where veteran Cooper Carlisle moved from right guard with the seining of Mike Brisiel, and with Parsons essentially running with the first-team offense the majority of the time."Hes done a fine job in improving his pass blocking skills," Knapp said of Parsons. "And thats usually the struggle for a young offensive lineman. And hes done a good job with the command of what we call 'spotting our line.' Because of what we do in the zone-run game, the center has a lot of responsibility of targeting us to the right linebacker or lineman, so hes done a fine job with that."While Jacoby Ford has yet to practice since injuring his left foot on Aug. 17, coach Dennis Allen was not ready to "officially" declare Ford not playing against the Chargers a done deal."We're going to hold out and wait until we get closer to game time to go ahead and make that decision," Allen insisted. "He's continued to get better. We'll see where we're at come gametime."And Allen on rookie receiver Juron Criner's sore right ankle: "My expectation is that he'll be ready to go Monday night."The Raiders will avoid a blackout as Monday's 7:15 p.m. game will indeed be televised locallyparking lots will open at 2:15 p.mRaiders games will air in Spanish on Univision Radio's 105.7 FM out of San Francisco, 100.7 FM out of San Jose, 1020 AM out of Los Angeles and 107.5 FM out of Fresno.
