Crabtree ticketed by Raider-fan cop, misses flight

The 49ers have a rare six days off to enjoy going into their bye week, but things haven't started great for receiver Michael Crabtree.

Crabtree was pulled over Tuesday evening before 5 p.m., Redwood City CHP public relations officer Scott Niemeth told CSNBayArea.com.

Crabtree was driving his Chevrolet Tahoe Suburban 85 miles per hour -- 20 mph above the limit of 65 -- going northbound on I-280, south of State Route 92.

A citation was issued, and Crabtree must pay the requisite fine or appear in court by early December.

Niemeth said the stop took 25-30 minutes, longer than a normal traffic stop for a number of reasons. Crabtree, a Texas native, has not properly registered his car in California. There were also complications with his license, which spans both states.

Crabtree was given no preferential treatment for being a public figure; the stop was conducted under customary CHP protocol. Indeed, it did not even come up that Crabtree was employed by the San Francisco 49ers until 20 minutes or so into the stop, at which point the officer admitted he might not have recognized Crabtree because he was a Raiders fan.

The officer described Crabtree as polite throughout their interaction.
