Cal's Jordan shows versatility at pro day

March 9, 2011MAIOCCO ARCHIVE49ERS PAGE49ERS VIDEOMatt MaioccoCSNBayArea.comBERKELEY -- Cameron Jordan is one of the most versatile defensive linemen available in this year's draft.Jordan appears to have the kind of size, quickness and power that would suit the 17 teams that play 4-3 schemes, as well as the 15 teams that employ three-man lines on base downs. And do you want an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme? Well, Jordan probably isn't your man, but he's willing to try. There were no coaches in attendance at Cal's pro day, but scouts representing 25 NFL teams saw Jordan's agility as he dropped into coverage.

REWIND: Cal pro day, March 9
"Some of the drills I've never done before," Jordan said. "They asked me to do some linebacker drills. I'm down to do anything, really. It was a fun experience. If you give me a week or two, I could kill that drill. "
When asked if he could play outside linebacker, Jordan answered, "I feel like I could if you wanted me to. I'm willing to do anything."Jordan (6-4, 286 pounds) is not going to be an outside linebacker in the NFL. He is too valuable as a defensive lineman. His strong showing during the week of practices at the Senior Bowl seemed to ensure he will not fall into the second half of the first round.
Jordan, running back Shane Vereen, linebacker Mike Mohamed and defensive back Chris Conte each participated in the NFL scouting combine earlier this month. Those four appear to be the only Cal players with legitimate chances to get drafted. And that's all Mohamed wants. After all, undrafted players will not be allowed to sign with teams after the draft until there's a new collective bargaining agreement."It's definitely a scary situation, especially for incoming rookies," Mohamed said. "There's a lot of uncertainty. Hope there's a deal done, so after the draft we can get football moving again."Kevin Riley, Keith Browner, Donovan Edwards, Richard Fisher, Chris Guarnero, Darian Hagan, Derrick Hill, Jerome Meadows, Jarred Price and Jeremy Ross also took part in the pro day.
