Aldon Smith: ‘Letting everybody down was the saddest part'

SANTA CLARA -- Aldon Smith spoke publicly Friday for the first time since an incident at his house resulted in two stab wounds.

Coach Harbaugh said he had a talk with you, could you reveal anything about what was said?
"Not really. That was between me and him. And we're both on the same page."

How are you, physically?
"I'm good. I'm 100 percent. I'm healed up. I'm good."

There was a lot of concern around the country for your well-being. What exactly happened?
"Letting everybody down was probably the saddest part. I'm back to 100 percent. And I'm ready to go."

Did you feel that way, that you let everybody down? Who did you let down?
"I feel like after the incidents that happened, and the expectations that were set for me. I felt like I let the fans and everybody that kind of looked at me like that down."

What has that done to you, as far as how you approach things?
"It helped my focus out. I'm really focused more than ever -- not to say I wasn't in the beginning. Just focused more than ever and I'm ready to go."

All of us were 20-some-odd years old at some point, do you say, 'Most kids my age can do this, maybe I can't because of the position I'm in'?
"Being my age, you have to be aware of everything around you. I have to make better decisions and surround myself with good people."

How scary was it? Did you see your career flash before your eyes?
"I wouldn't say that. You definitely think about what happened and think about how you want to be perceived and how you want your career to go."

How did the 49ers treat you? Were they fully supportive?
"Fully supportive and they had my back the whole way."

Are you angry about the incident -- angry at yourself or angry at the perpetrator?
"If anybody, probably myself. I just got to make better decisions. You live and you learn."

Did you have stitches?
"No, staples."

Are you keeping in touch with the investigators to find out what happens?
"Yeah, we're all working together and feeling everything out."

Coach said you're going to be full go. Do you expect to feel it in some way?
"I'm all right. I'm healed up and ready to go."
