ARLINGTON, Texas -- At the risk of jinxing anything for the Giants, Edgar Renteria just wrapped up the World Series MVP.Batting .429 going into Game 5, he just shattered Cliff Lees aura of invincibility with a three-run homer that, should the Giants go on to win tonight, will go down as the biggest home run in San Francisco history.Step aside Aubrey Huff. Your huge Game 4 blast has been trumped. What an incredible story Renteria has become. Big contract, big bust, big start to 2010, big time on the DL, then comes up bigger than anyone on the biggest stage the game has to offer.Only in October.
UPDATED: 6:20 P.M.So much for that advantage that Bengie Molina was supposed to give the Rangers by downloading all of his info on the Giants pitchers. Not only have the Giants thoroughly dominated the Texas offense in the World Series, but Molina himself has been a mess at the plate.Pre-Series word was that hed be particularly useful in the games started by Tim Lincecum.Word now, after two truly pathetic at-bats against the Freak, including a see-ya-on-three punchy, is that Molina isnt taking his own advice.Or have the Giants changed their patterns?Possibly a little of both, but heres a more likely reason for the Rangers struggles at the plate:
The Giants are just that good. UPDATED: 5:50 P.M.Remember the letdown that was the Greatest World Series Pitching Matchup Ever in Game 1?No letdown in round two here tonight. Tim Lincecum and Cliff Lee are both absolutely nasty tonight. Both got knocked around a bit in Game 1, with Lincecum managing his B game better than Lee on the way to victory, but they both have the A stuff working in Game 5.Lee is pounding the strike zone as usual, but whats making him extra tough is a fantastic curveball.Lincecum, whose velocity isnt extraordinary but consistent, is living large on his split-fingered changeup. The games moving very quickly, and neither team has mounted much of a threat.Get used to it. These guys are locked in.
