In a race slightly shorter than the typical mile-and-a-half running, Tiz The Law came out on top Saturday in the 152nd running of the Belmont Stakes in Elmont, N.Y.
The New York-bred horse finished the mile-and-a-quarter in 1 minute and 46.53 seconds, and crossed the line 3 3/4 lengths ahead of Dr Post.

A shorter run wasn't the only unique aspect of this year's event. The coronavirus pandemic forced the Belmont to be the first leg of the Triple Crown for the first time in history, instead of its customary spot as the final race among the three. The event also didn't have fans in attendance, as has become standard procedure for American sports over the past three months.
The Kentucky Derby, typically the Triple Crown opener on the first Saturday in May, now is the second leg of this year's Triple Crown, and will be held Sept. 5 at Churchill Downs.
Tiz The Law had the best odds to win Saturday's Belmont Stakes as the morning-line favorite (4/5).
Here are the $2 bet payout results from the 152nd running of the Belmont Stakes.
