The USF men's basketball team has lost six players as transfers, including starters Perris Blackwell and Michael Williams. The other four are Justin Raffington, Charles Standifer, Khalil Murphy and Avery Johnson, according to USF coach Rex Walters.USF will return just six players for the 2012-13 season. Blackwell, a 6-9 forward, averaged 12.7 points per game and 6.1 rebounds last season as a junior. Williams (6-0) posted averages of 11.1 ppg and 1.4 assists per game while appearing in 27 games as a junior.
Walters told the San Jose Mercury News, which first reported the story, that the players all had very good reasons for departing.USF finished 8-8 in West Coast Conference play and 20-14 overall.
If you look at the transfer rate at high schools, its pretty high," Walters told the newspaper. "If you look at the transfer rate on AAU teams, it's 50 percent. It doesn't diminish what these six guys helped us accomplish. We support them."
