‘We're not alike': Draymond strongly objects to Gobert comparison

Share

Do not compare Draymond Green to Rudy Gobert.

The Warriors forward doesn’t like it and made that perfectly clear during the 2022 NBA All-Star Weekend broadcast on TNT.

"You keep mentioning me in the same sentence with him,” Green told the TNT crew on Sunday. “We're not alike."

"You're not like Rudy Gobert?" Kenny Smith asked.

“Nah, we ain't nothing alike,” Green responded.

The two big men often get compared because of the way they perform on the defensive end.

Gobert is a three-time Defensive Player of the Year and was named to his fifth consecutive NBA All-Defensive First Team last season.

Meanwhile, Draymond has won DPOY once and has been named to the NBA All-Defensive team six times in his 10-year NBA career.

Both are the undeniable centerpieces of their team’s defense.

Still, Draymond doesn’t want to be mentioned in the same sentence as the 7-foot-1 Utah Jazz center.

Draymond is a mastermind of his own when it comes to dissecting an opposing team’s offense. His communication on the floor is why the Warriors are the second-best defensive team in the league right now, only behind the Phoenix Suns.

This year’s DPOY race is as fascinating as any in recent memory. Draymond was an early front-runner for the award but has missed the last 20 games as he recovers from a back injury.

And if watching Draymond on the court isn’t enough to plead his case, perhaps his absence on the court could.

The Warriors have gone 13-7 over their 20 games without Green, but are just 14-11 overall this season when the star forward doesn't play.

An impact both Draymond and Gobert have on their teams, but for Draymond’s sake, just don’t mention them together.
