For four years in a row, the NBA general managers have tabbed Ron Adams as the best assistant coach in the NBA.

The 71-year old is in his fifth season with Golden State and has been coaching since 1969. Plain and simple -- when he talks, you listen.

Adams has worked a lot with Damian Jones, who has come a long way since the Warriors drafted him 30th overall in 2016. On Thursday morning, Adams provided an update on the 23-year old's progression.

"Defensively, I really like what he does. I would say at times he falls victim to not having the game experience that a veteran player would have," Adams told Murph & Mac on KNBR 680. "But in principle, he's in the right spots, he's a good help defender, he moves well, and I think has a good knowledge of ball-screen coverage.

"He needs to talk more. One of the problems defensively when you have younger players is that they don't talk. They are learning to talk better -- talk out coverages, which is really, really important."

Jones -- who logged only 174 minutes over his first two NBA seasons combined -- is a soft-spoken guy off the court, so it's not a surprise this is something he's working on.

In 17.2 minutes per game this season, he's averaging 5.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 blocks, while shooting over 74 percent from the field and 63.6 percent from the free throw line.

"Offensively, he's quite good but he's very respectful of who he plays with (laughing)," Adams added. "His job is a little bit different than the next guy who is known to score the ball ... he's a very capable offensive player. I think he'll continue to show you that as he relaxes a bit more in games. I think he's on a good chart.

"I like where he is at the moment."
