Giants Twitter reacts to Belt's reported Blue Jays contract

Brandon Belt's time with the Giants appears to be over, as the 12-year MLB veteran reportedly agreed to a one-year, $9.3 million free-agent contract with the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.

The San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reported that the deal is expected to be announced Tuesday.

Belt, one of the more polarizing players in recent Giants history, was the subject of the "Belt Wars" on social media. But the "Baby Giraffe" had a large following within the Giants' fanbase, which made Monday's news tough for some.

Here's how members of Giants Twitter reacted to the news.

Belt had been a member of the Giants' organization since 2009 when he was selected in the fifth round of the MLB Draft out of the University of Texas. He made it to the big leagues in 2011 and became a mainstay at first base for more than a decade.

Injuries kept Belt from reaching his full potential and his latest ailment, right knee surgery last September, was one that caused him to contemplate his baseball future.

But Belt told NBC Sports Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic in October that he was feeling good, and the Blue Jays are hoping the 34-year-old is healthy enough to contribute in 2023.
