Oakland shocked the baseball world in 2018. Beane's A's had the fourth-best record in the majors (97-65), and reached the postseason for the first time since 2014. They did so despite beginning the season with the lowest payroll in the majors.
Beane won the award on the same day his manager, Bob Melvin, was named a finalist for the 2018 AL Manager of the Year award. On Sunday, third baseman Matt Champan and first baseman Matt Olson won the first Gold Glove awards of their respective careers.
A week ago, the A's announced they re-signed Beane, melvin, and general manager David Forst to "long-term contract extensions." Melvin's deal reportedly runs through 2021, while Forst's lasts until 2023.

Beane begain working in the A's front office in 1990. He took over as general manager in 1997, and was promoted to executive vice president in 2015.
