The third round of the PGA Championship is over and some of the world's best players have battled tough conditions on the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island.
Phil Mickelson (-7) stands alone atop the field after Round 3. Mickelson's 2-under 70 on Saturday kept him just ahead of Brooks Koepka (-6) and Louis Oosthuizen (-5). Mickelson stretched his lead to five strokes after 10 holes on Saturday, but a bogey on 12 and double bogey on 13 allowed Koepka and Oosthuizen to get back within reach.
Koepka also shot a 2-under 70 on Saturday, finishing with a 2-under 34 on the back nine thanks to birdies on 10, 12 and 16. He entered the final hole tied with Mickelson before bogeying 18. Oosthuizen wasn’t as sharp as his competitors, shooting an even-par 72 with three birdies and three bogeys.

Not everyone had a great day on Saturday. Masters winner Hideki Matsuyama shot a four-over 76 after entering the weekend at three-under in a tie for fourth. Matsuyama’s bid at another major championship is now effectively over.
Rory McIlroy continued to struggle on Saturday, shooting a two-over 74 and dropping to +5 for the tournament. One of the favorites entering the weekend, McIlroy has yet to shoot a round below par.
Here is everything you need to know for the 2021 PGA Championship:
Where is the 2021 PGA Championship?
Golf
The last time Kiawah Island hosted the PGA Championship was 2012, when McIlroy won his first Wanamaker Trophy and second career major. Fast-forward nine years, Rory McIlroy is back fresh off a win at the Wells Fargo Championship. Will the No.7-ranked golfer in the world be able to conquer the Ocean Course again?
The Ocean Course was designed by Alice and Pete Dye for the 1991 Ryder Cup, following the Irish and Scottish links-style. With 10 holes hugging the Atlantic Ocean and the remaining eight running parallel to those, players have to constantly consider the wind factor that makes every shot a difficult one.
Will fans attend the 2021 PGA Championship?
The PGA of America announced in February that a limited number of fans would be able to attend the second major of the year, after Morikawa won the 2020 PGA Championship last August with no spectators on-site at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
All spectators will be required to maintain social distancing and wear face coverings indoors and outdoors, while sanitation stations will be available throughout the course.
