The 49ers are NFC West champions. They earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC for the playoffs and can rest easy on a bye week after a wild 26-21 road win over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday in the regular-season finale.

This team is riding high right now. But one of their coaches could soon be gone for a promotion.

NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning that the Cleveland Browns have requested permission to interview 49ers defensive coordinator for their head coaching vacancy.

Throughout the season, Saleh has been considered a hot name as a future head coach. The 40-year-old is in his third season as San Francisco's DC and has lead a dominant group this season.

The 49ers' defense finished the regular season ranked No. 2 in total yards allowed (4,509), No. 2 in yards per game (281.8) and eighth in points allowed per game (19.4) while playing a brutal schedule in the second half of the year.

Cleveland is just one of four teams currently looking for a new head coach. The Browns are joined by Washington, the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers.
