SANTA CLARA – Quarterback Colin Kaepernick on Monday reported back to the 49ers’ facility in Levi’s Stadium to begin rehabilitation from last week's shoulder surgery, 49ers coach Jim Tomsula said.
Kaepernick underwent surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. The surgery generally requires from four to six months of rehabilitation.
“He’s coming in today to start his rehab,” Tomsula said at his Monday press conference.

Kaepernick wanted to attend the 49ers’ game Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, but doctors advised him to remain away to continue to rest and recover. Dr. Peter Millet of the Steadman Clinic performed the surgery in Vail, Colorado.
In other 49ers injury news, tight end Garrett Celek is scheduled to undergo an MRI examination on his left ankle to determine if he will be able to return to action this season.
“Celek is going for an MRI, but we still feel like nothing’s broken, that it’s what our people categorized as a high-ankle sprain,” Tomsula said. “Obviously with those, we have to look to see the severity of it.”
The results of the MRI will likely determine if the 49ers will add another tight end to the roster to join Vance McDonald and rookie Blake Bell.
