OAKLAND -- Conventional wisdom is the Warriors might try to go out and get a swingman to back up Monta Ellis and Dorell Wright. The thinking is that rookie Klay Thompson might not be ready for a consistent NBA workload just yet.Yeah, well forget that.Warriors coach Mark Jackson made it crystal clear on Tuesdayafter Thompsons first-ever NBA practicethat the first-year swingman from Washington State is going to play. And hes going to play sooner rather than later.
Said Jackson: Klay Thompson will play right away, Jackson said. Hes that good.
Thompson is considered a big-time shooter but might be a touch challenged on the athletic side. But he has a high basketball IQ, and if he quickly understands team defensive concepts, he will likely will see plenty of opportunitycertainly early.
