Is Beltran the best postseason player of all time?

Carlos Beltran's postseason career numbers are staggering, and he's finding a way to raise them in this year's NLCS between the Giants and Cardinals.

As the boys from HardBallTalk.com point out, among players with 100 playoff at-bats, Beltran is the career leader in postseason batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and OPS.

Beltran, who has 137 postseason plate appearances, can't hold a candle to the totals of perennial playoff contenders like Derek Jeter. Jeter has 734 postseason plate appearances, almost 200 more than the next player. But when it comes to the averages, Beltran is king.

Beltran is 3-for-7 (.429) with a home run and two doubles against the Giants through the first two games of this year's NLCS. And he was 8-for-18 (.444) with two home runs and three doubles in the Cardinals' NLDS win over the Nationals.
