After coming off a poor performance, the Lightning came out with vengeance against the Sharks as they beat San Jose 7-1.
The Sharks will be without one of their best players for quite some time, as defenseman Erik Karlsson had surgery to repair a small muscle tear in his left forearm, the team announced Tuesday.
Karlsson will be re-evaluated in mid-March.
The Sharks are 21-19-2 and currently in fifth place in the Pacific Division and tied with the Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

The 31-year-old defenseman has 26 points in 33 games played this season.

Bob Boughner's club is 5-3-1 this season without Karlsson in the lineup.
The Sharks take the ice again Wednesday against the Washington Capitals and then face the Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday and Sunday.
